Microsoft announced a handful of new features coming to the Xbox Live Preview program on Xbox One and Windows 10 today. Xbox Live's Larry Hyrb detailed the update on his blog on Monday, with a special focus on the new Arena system. The eSports-centric program will allow players of almost any ability to compete in online tournaments.
Killer Instinct is the first title on Xbox Live Arena.
While Arena is still in Preview, participants in Xbox Live's limited program can compete in daily Killer Instinct practice tournaments. At rollout, the tournaments will only be available in the U.S., but Microsoft plans to scale up the Arena system to Preview members in other regions in October. The Arena update was first announced by Microsoft earlier this year at E3.
"We’re really excited about the potential of Arena and eager to hear your thoughts as we evolve it and make eSports more accessible for gamers everywhere, regardless of skill-level," Hyrb said.
You can also expect to find out the rarity of your latest Achievements starting today. Achievement Rarity includes a new pop-up animation, displaying a diamond symbol and the percentage of players who have unlocked the same Achievement.
New features have also been added to the Preview program's Looking For Group functionality, allowing users to seek out other players to game with for a scheduled time up to seven days in advance. You can also designate your LFG post to a specific Xbox Live Club. The Clubs feature was rolled out to the Preview program last month.
