Warning: this article contains spoilers for Batman #32!

To recap, Batman #24 ended on a major cliffhanger earlier this year when Batman proposed to his longtime lover/occasional nemesis Catwoman. But rather than answer right away, Selina agreed to wait and listen as Bruce recounted the most terrible secret from his past. That's been the premise of the current storyline "The War of Jokes and Riddles," which has flashed back to Batman's early career and chronicled a devastating conflict between the Joker and the Riddler.

This week, Batman #32 will reveal exactly how that war ended and what terrible mistake has haunted Bruce ever since. But DC chose to reveal that twist early via USA Today. Batman's dark secret is that he tried to kill the Riddler. In fact, the only thing preventing him from breaking his cardinal rule as a hero was the intervention of Joker. Talk about irony.

But as much as this brush with murder weighs on Bruce today, it doesn't seem to bother Selina. Batman #32 ends with Selina asking Bruce to repeat his marriage proposal and then happily accepting.

“That to me is what true love is,” King told USA Today. “It’s showing who you truly are to someone. It’s letting someone know deep down who you are and that’s horribly frightening and it scares Batman as much as anything ever has.”

However, King warned that there may still be obstacles ahead for this tumultuous romance. The next story arc will be titled "Rules of Engagement," and King teases, "Most superheroes, you make them happy and you end conflict — you give Spider-Man a wife and where do you go from there? But Batman’s the opposite: You give him happiness and you create conflict, because he’s fundamentally a sad character.”

Do you think Catwoman made the right decision? Can a couple like Batman and Catwoman ever truly be happy together? let us know what you think in the comments below.
