E3 2017 boosted AU esports this week as a strong performance by the Blue-Ringed Octolings at the Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational reminded the world just how competitive OCE can get. Elsewhere, Nomia battled their way into the playoffs of the Heroes of the Storm Global Championships Mid-Season Brawl, the Zen Esports Network League Finals saw MVP PK and Recca Esports duke it out and League of Legends Season 2 continued.

Overwatch - World Cup 2017 Sydney Qualifier Tickets Available
The Overwatch World Cup 2017 is holding Group Stage Qualifiers in Sydney next month and tickets are on sale now via Ticketek. It seems the only ticket available is a 3 Day Pass for $60 (plus Ticketek's $7 fee for doing nothing), which gets you access to — you guessed it — all three days of the event. Group C, featuring the Australian squad, plays on the Friday, while the Saturday sees Group D duke it out. Sunday features the Finals from the group stages as teams attempt to secure their place in the World Cup.
Also revealed today is the news that Blank Esports — our local representatives in the OPC — will form the team for Australia in this year's World Cup efforts. It's a strong pick from our selectors, recognising that team synergy is supremely important in Overwatch and Blank's cohesion has been doing wonders for them in the OPC. Watch the announcement trailer below.
League of Legends - OPL Split 2 Week 2
Week 2 of the OPL featured Legacy vs Avant for the first time since this split, while Abyss took on the Chiefs. The Chiefs and Dire Wolves won their games without a hitch, but underdogs TM and Avant Garde snatched a game from opponents Sin Gaming and Legacy respectively. Watch below as Sin Gaming turn around a great initiation by TM to secure Game 2.
Splatoon 2 - World Inkling Invitational
The World Inkling Invitational featured the best team from Europe, the best from North America, the best from Japan and our very own Blue-Ringed Octolings in some extremely tense paint-flinging action. BRO qualified for the Finals, but dropped in straight games to NA team Deadbeat. The Bo7 Grand Finals between JP team Dynameu and Deadbeat was over in 5 games as a home team advantage proved too strong. Watch the brilliant effort from BRO to stay in the competition against eventual Champions Deadbeat below.
Heroes of the Storm - Mid-Season Invitational
Aussies Nomia secured a spot in the playoffs in the Mid-Season Brawl, running directly into South Korean side L5. It was a rough match-up for the Aussies — some fantastic drafting couldn't bridge the gap in sheer micro between the two. Watch FAT94 go huge as D.VA in one of the Nomia based highlights from the match-up below.
Counter-Strike - Zen Esports League Finals
The Zen Esports Network League Finals wrapped up on the weekend with Indonesian team Recca Esports taking home the prize, defeating Japanese tea, MVP PK 2 - 1. After a shaky start the Indonesian team found their form and secured the win in an impressive performance. Aussie teams Team Immunity and Dark Sided placed 3rd and 4th respectively, with Immunity falling to MVP PK in the Loser's Finals. Watch Immunity's erkaSt snag an Ace against Dark Sided in the first round of the playoffs below.
