Billy Crudup, who will star as Henry Allen in Justice League, has reportedly dropped out of The Flash.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Crudup won't reprise his role as the father of Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) in the upcoming solo film. A source has also told the outlet that Sam Raimi and Marc Webb, both of whom helmed Spider-Man films for Sony, have passed on directing the movie.
Raimi, Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn were all reportedly in contention to direct The Flash. While Vaughn is said to still be in the mix, EW reports that Zemeckis is now the front-runner for the position. However, nothing has been set in stone just yet.
Zemeckis has an untitled film starring Steve Carell scheduled to begin production in August, which could pose a scheduling conflict in the event Warner Bros. does indeed want to start development on The Flash later this year. Meanwhile, Vaughn, who's currently editing Kingsman: The Golden Circle ahead of the film's debut this September, is already planning a third Kingsman film.
After director Rick Famuyiwa left the project last year, Warner Bros. decided to completely re-write the The Flash and hired King Arthur: Legend of the Sword writer Joby Harold to handle the new script.
While the studio has yet to announce a release date for The Flash, and Crudup may no longer be involved, you'll be able to see Miller as Barry Allen and Crudup as his father later this year when Justice League opens in theaters on November 17.
