As Rick Grimes and his allies gear up for another war, a major development rocked the Walking Dead comic today.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead #156!
All signs pointed to the crafty Negan forming an alliance with Alpha and her army of zombie skin-wearing minions, thereby creating the biggest threat to peace since the events of "All Out War." But just as Alpha finally seemed to warm up to Negan and let her guard down, Negan seized the opportunity to eliminate his new rival.
It was a surprise attack not unlike Negan's infamous murder of Glenn back in The Walking Dead #100. The real question is how this act will impact the fragile balance of power between the Whisperers and the residents of Alexandria. Will Negan lead the Whisperers against Rick and the rest? Did he kill Alpha to put a stop to the coming war? Will the Whisperers even follow this deranged villain in the first place? We'll find out more when The Walking Dead #157 ships next month.
In the meantime, we're hoping to learn more about what this twist means for the future of the series at Comic-Con later this month.
